Maxine Gaiber, the Gershman Y’s new Executive Director (direct from the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts) gives an enlightening introduction to the work of American photographer and filmmaker Paul Strand, whose work is on display in a special exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Strand’s life’s work includes his breakthrough trials in abstraction and street portraits, close-ups of natural and machine forms, and extended explorations of the American Southwest, Mexico, New England, France, Italy, Scotland, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, and Romania. Whether you’re planning to see the exhibit or just want to learn more about the artist, don’t miss this illuminating discussion about this influential Jewish American artist!
