This study tour set for June 2017 uniquely examines not only the Jews of the Golden Age of Spain, but also the incredibly rich art and culture that they shared with their neighbors in towns and cities across Spain. We will look at the broader context transcending the Medieval period to the present day with visits to some of the country’s world renowned art collections, libraries, and historic sites.

From Madrid to Seville and Grenada to Barcelona, you will enjoy wonderful meals, see incredible sights, and learn from a respected and experienced scholar. Philadelphia native and a graduate of the former Akiba Hebrew Academy, Arnold Franklin grew up at Mikveh Israel, the historic Spanish and Portuguese synagogue in Center City, and has fond memories of attending cultural events at the Gershman Y.  Professor Franklin will be giving a presentation entitled THE JEWS OF MEDIEVAL SPAIN: FROM SOARING HEIGHTS TO EXPULSION on November 3rd at 7:00 PM at the Gershman Y. The presentation will be followed by a brief introduction to the study tour by Moshe Margolin, the Director of Jewish Explorations.
