Join us for an evening celebrating the artistic life of the multi-talented Leonard Cohen. This performance event will weave music, poetry, and spoken word together to create an unparalleled experience of this beloved artist. A special screening from the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival, we’ll present LADIES AND GENTLEMEN… MR. LEONARD COHEN, a 44-minute gem from 1965 that captures Cohen’s prominence as a poet and novelist in Canada before he put out a single record. Afterwards, there will be readings of Cohen’s poetry from Philadelphia spoken word performers, light bites and libations, and performances from local bands, songwriters, and singers.

One of the world’s most beloved and acclaimed musicians, Leonard Cohen created work that was deeply rooted in Jewish life and thought, yet embraced by the world. His songwriting debut in 1967, Songs of Leonard Cohen, is 50 years old this December and as iconic as ever. At 82, Cohen passed in November of 2016 and, on this night nearly six months later, the Y will pay tribute to his awe-inspiring life and work.

We invite you to participate in An Evening of Leonard Cohen and would be grateful if you would consider sponsoring this Gershman Y program.
