The Gershman Y is in search of active and enthusiastic community members for its newly formed Community Engagement Council.
Seeking to engage with community members and expand its outreach, the Gershman Y is developing a Community Engagement Council that will be comprised of a diverse array of individuals that represents the broad constituency of the Gershman Y. Meeting quarterly, the council will review upcoming programming, marketing and community initiatives of the Gershman Y in order to assess their impact, assist in developing communications strategies, and aid in promotion efforts.
Slated to begin in April 2017, the council will be co-led by the Director of Programs and Director of PR and Marketing who will steer the committee’s contributions to meet the following goals:
- Discuss the current and upcoming programming for the varied constituencies of the Gershman Y, with special attention to the current and future goals of programming at the organization.
- Discuss contemporary arts and culture, scholarship, and the greater community to contribute future ideas for fulfilling the mission of the Gershman Y.
- Discuss and assist with the promotion of programming and the institution as a whole to the wider Philadelphia audience.
- Serve as a community ambassador of the Gershman Y.
Applicants interested in joining the Community Engagement Council should send their resume and letter of interest to Lindsey Nevin, Director of Programs, at email@example.com.
About the Gershman Y:
The Gershman Y is an urban arts and culture center located in Center City Philadelphia on the Avenue of the Arts. The Gershman Y presents a broad array of arts, culture, and educational experiences informed by Jewish values. Committed to sharing the diversity and breadth of the human experience, the Gershman Y is an inclusive organization that welcomes people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, faiths, and affiliations to explore, participate, and contribute to our rich roster of arts and cultural programs and community initiatives. We embrace the Jewish values of learning, respectful dialogue, importance of family, concern for the environment, and the power of community to repair the world.
The Gershman Y has three areas of programming: Art exhibitions in the Gershman Y’s Gershman Gallery and Open Lens Gallery; arts and cultural programs and events, including our signature programs like Latkepalooza, a culinary extravaganza, and the Moo Shu Jew Show comedy celebration; and the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival (PJFF). The Gershman Y offers a unique array of programs every year, including author talks, classes, holiday celebrations, film screenings, scholarly lectures and panels, gallery exhibitions, and live performances.
In addition, with the Gershman Y’s most recent major success What Goes On: The Velvet Underground at the Y 50th Anniversary concert, the organization is at an exciting junction to create dynamic programming that continues to foster relationships with a diverse new audience while reinvigorating our connection with our core audiences.
